Quick overview:
Since its release, Windows 11 has not only received praise, but also criticism. The accusation that it is slow comes up again and again. This is not absolutely true. However, the operating system does have some weaknesses. Find out why here. With lots of helpful tips on what you can do about it!
Is Windows 11 running out of steam?
How fast Microsoft's operating system works depends on many factors, such as the PC and the processor installed. If you want to find out what is true about the allegations, you need objective, comprehensive tests.
The magazine PC Welt carried out such a test immediately after the new operating system was released. The result: Windows 11 is hardly slower than its predecessor, at least not on the devices tested.
How can Windows 11 be accelerated?
Nevertheless, many users have the feeling that Windows 11 could be a little faster. This starts with the boot process. In fact, PC Welt also found that Windows 11 can have problems here. The test computers were always slower when the autostart option was activated. The first option for speeding up Windows 11 is therefore to deactivate this function. Other options are available by using the classics for more speed in Windows 11 as well.
1 Switch off the autostart option for Windows 11
The autostart function refers to programs such as your mail program. If the function is active, the program is immediately available to you. This is not always necessary. You should therefore deactivate the function for everything that you can do without immediately after starting.
This will force a faster start:
+ You can find the function in the Task Manager: Open it with "[Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Esc]".
+ In the "Autostart" category, check which programs use this function.
+ If necessary, change the status to deactivate anything unwanted.
2 Clean up your computer, free up memory
Every computer needs storage space for certain processes, for example for temporary files. Sometimes even though they are no longer being used: Extra space is reserved for this. After a while, this leads to poorer performance. If you free up this space, Windows 11 will also run faster. To do this, use [Windows] key + [R] and then "cleanmgr". You will then be shown what you can delete. You will also find out how much storage space this will free up. Place a checkmark wherever you find massive amounts of junk data.
3 Use software tools to speed up Windows
If you want more than the in-house system can offer, use additional tools. The classic CCleaner detects significantly more garbage because it also penetrates other parts of the computer. For example, you no longer have to clean your browser history separately because CCleaner does it for you.

4 Deactivate everything you don't need
Programs that run permanently in the background can become a problem for your RAM. The prerequisite is that your memory is not sufficient. If you do not want to or cannot install more RAM, you should close all less important programs. Use tools such as the "Process Explorer" for this.
5 Switch off graphic effects
Graphical effects slow down your system: If you want more speed, you should try switching off these purely visual improvements. Open the command line again with [Windows] key + [R] and then enter "sysdm.cpl". You will find the performance under the advanced settings. Here, click on the setting "Customize for optimal performance". Don't forget to click "Apply" and "OK"!
