Quick overview:
Vista is quickly forgotten: Microsoft is working at full speed on the successor "Windows 7″, which will be publicly available for download on the Microsoft website from May 5 in the final pre-release version "Release Candidate" (Build 7100). Windows-Tweaks reveals what's new and where you can find the RC. [By Sandro Villinger]
There is no question that Vista was and is an unlucky child: thanks to poor driver support in the initial phase and higher system requirements, it earned a bad reputation that has no longer been justified since SP1 at the latest. Even the recently released SP2 will not change this: Many XP users hear bad things about the new Vista and refuse to switch. Now Windows 7 is in the starting blocks and wants to put an end to all the criticism. From tomorrow there will be http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx The latest pre-release version (RC, version 7100) is available to download free of charge - in German and in both 32- and 64-bit versions. I have been working intensively with the release candidate for two weeks now and will be presenting the best Windows 7 functions in pictures and words over the next few days. Here we go:
Superbar: The new "Superbar" replaces the taskbar: it combines the former quick launch bar and the taskbar and thus provides more order. In future, you can start and manage a program (Word 2007 in the example) via an icon.
Action Center: The notification area of the taskbar is much less annoying with so-called "balloon tips" and now only displays the most important information. You can decide for yourself which program should spit out messages and which should not.
Aero Peek: By clicking on the small transparent rectangle to the right of the clock, all windows immediately become transparent and you can quickly view the desktop.
Aero Snap: If you drag a window to the left or right edge of the screen, it is automatically scaled to the respective half of the screen. In the past, it was very difficult to display two windows directly next to each other. By the way: If you drag the window to the top of the screen, it will be maximized.
In the coming days there will be more new features that you can try out right away with the Windows 7 RC!
Sincerely,
Sandro Villinger
