How to disable the DMA-shutdown mechanism 1. Install Microsoft Service Pack 2 for Windows XP! Note: Service Pack 2 updates your Windows XP with the latest security technology and several fixes that will automatically solve most known problems. You can download it from the Windows XP SP2 Download Page or you can Order a Service Pack 2 CD! 2. Press Windows-key+R and enter regedit in order to open up the Registry Editor. Expand the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001. Right-click into the right part of the window and select New/DWORD value. Name it ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess, double-click on this value and enter 1. 3. Repeat this step with the subkeys 0002, 0003 (etc.) if they exist. After a restart the DMA-mode wont shut down anymore and therefore delivers you high speed performance while accessing your data. |
