GTA V continues to break records in July - but mobile games are catching up!

6 years after its initial release, GTA V is still breaking records as the top-selling console game, according to SuperData Research. Although console and PC games are declining slightly overall, the huge mobile games market is compensating for this.

According to SuperData Research, a total of 9.2 billion US dollars was spent on games and in-game purchases worldwide.

This represents growth of 5% compared to the previous year. As already mentioned, traditional PC and console games are still very strong, but are stagnating by a few single-digit percentages. So what is causing the boom? Clearly: mobile games. In addition to traditional mobile apps, this also includes visits to mobile casino games, such as Dcasino.com.
Free-to-play offers have also halved. It seems as if players have slowly smelled the rat and no longer want to be ripped off so easily.
 
GTA Online and battle royale games are rocking the house
GTA V was not at all affected by the minimal stagnation. The multiplayer part of "GTA Online" continues to enjoy great popularity. The most recently released casino update is still rocking the house and has once again made the game the top-selling game of July 2019. Fortnite, on the other hand, is weakening somewhat and is now in 4th place (previously 1st). The former underdog "Apex Legends" is now in second place and has been able to clear a lot of ground - both on consoles and PCs: 37 million $ in sales were generated, which is still only half of the revenue that was once twice as high in March 2019.
And what about the former top dog PUPG? Well, the game sold around 1.1 million copies in July at a price of $18. This is only a fraction of what the title once claimed for itself. FIFA mobile - despite being a mobile game - couldn't quite keep up with the growing competition either:

Of course, this is partly due to the fact that the 2018 soccer season provided plenty of momentum here. However, Honour of Kings, Pokemon GO (yes, you read that right) and Candy Crush Saga (the eternal winner), which make up the top 3 mobile games, look much better.
