I tested it - and I was annoyed:

Anyone who wants to download a Windows 11 ISO today has to click their way through semi-legal third-party sites, ends up seeing ads, or is greeted with error messages on the official Microsoft site.

That's why I'm going to show you my two best methods for downloading the latest Windows 11 25H2 ISO file directly and securely—with no detours, no adware, and no shady third-party tools.

Whether you want to reinstall Windows 11, prepare a USB drive, or just save the latest ISO for later—here you'll find my tried-and-true download links, clear instructions, and tips that I've been using for years for my own Windows setup.

And yes: The whole thing runs directly through Microsoft's servers, so it's 100 % legal, up-to-date, and secure.

Method 1: Download and install Windows 11 ISO 25H2 via Media Creation Tool (MS Installation Assistant)

UPDATE August 2025:

I just tested it myself:

With Microsoft's official Media Creation Tool, you can download the latest Windows 11 ISO (version 25H2) in just a few minutes—completely free, secure, and directly from the Microsoft server.

First step: Download the Media Creation Tool for Windows 11 with Microsoft's installation assistant

▶️ Direct links to the Media Creation Tool (secure Microsoft servers):

Note:

Some users report that the direct Microsoft download often stops with an error message—using the links here is faster and error-free.

In the following sections, I will also show you how to turn the ISO into a bootable USB installation - plus all alternative methods in case the tool doesn't work for you.

Second step: Create bootable Windows 11 ISO file (64-bit) Home and Pro with the Media Creation Tool

Did you download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool above? Then you can use the following steps to easily burn the ISO file to a USB flash drive or DVD, which you can then use to easily reinstall Windows 11.

Create Windows 11 ISO with the Media Creation Tool - step by step:

Here is how:

  1. Click the button above or follow this link to download the official Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  2. Starten Sie das Programm per Doppelklick - es muss nicht installiert werden. Nach dem Start klicken Sie einfach auf „Akzeptieren“. Windows-Lizenzbedingungen Bildschirm während Installation
  3. In the next step, select the language and edition:

    Windows 11 Setup-Sprachauswahl, Deutsch ausgewählt.Windows 11 Setup-Sprachauswahl, Deutsch ausgewählt.
  4. Next, choose the installation medium: Here, you decide whether you want to download an ISO file directly (e.g., to create a USB drive using Rufus, as described below) or whether you want the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive right away.
Windows 11 Medienauswahl: USB oder ISO-Datei.Windows 11 Medienauswahl: USB oder ISO-Datei.EXPERT
TIP "Rufus": The Media Creation Tool works well, but I’ve often had problems booting from it—whereas Rufus has worked without fail (and offers even more options, such as removing minimum requirements; see the instructions below).
  5. Insert the USB flash drive now: it should have at least 8 GB of storage so that the Windows setup fits on it well. In my case, it's a 128 GB drive – completely oversized, but it works!
  6. Now you have to wait a few minutes until the Windows 11 25H2 data has been downloaded.

Method 2: Download Windows 11 ISO 25H2 as a file directly & install with Rufus (without Media Creation Tool)

Do you want to get the ISO file directly without the Microsoft tool? No problem - it can also be done manually.

This method is a bit more cumbersome, but it works reliably:

In Step 1, I'll show you the direct route through Microsoft's hidden download page, where—with just a few clicks—you can access the Windows 11 ISO file in German, English, or another language—as a 64-bit version for Home, Pro, or Education.

Next, in Step 2, use the secure Rufus tool and a bootable USB drive to create an installation medium.

Next, in step 3, install Windows 11 using the bootable USB flash drive.

Here is the complete guide without the Media Creation Tool.

First step: Download the Windows 11 ISO as a drive image (without Media Creation Tool)

Here is how:

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows11 and scroll down to „Windows 11 Drive Image.“

  2. Under "Select Download," click "Windows 11 (Multi-Edition ISO for x64 devices)," as shown in the screenshot:
    Windows 11 ISO-Download für x64-GeräteWindows 11 ISO-Download für x64-Geräte
  3. Then click on „Download Now“. Shortly after, you can select the language and then click „Confirm“. Last but not least, click on „Download 64-Bit“.
Note: The file is quite large (usually around 5-5.5 GB) and will therefore take a while.

This is how it continues after the download:

Below, I'll show you step by step how to easily create a bootable USB drive or DVD from the downloaded Windows 11 ISO (Version 25H2)—with or without a product key.

All you need is an ISO file, the Rufus tool, and a USB flash drive. That's all.

I use this method regularly myself - it's fast, secure, and works on pretty much any PC.

Good to know: Even without a valid product key, you can install Windows 11 for now and activate it later. The setup process will still work without any problems.

If you're still using Windows 10, check out our Windows 10 ISO Download Guide.

Second step: Create a bootable USB stick with the Win 11 ISO file using Rufus

Did you have trouble creating a bootable USB drive using the Media Creation Tool?

Or maybe you want to install Windows 11 on a PC that doesn't meet the minimum requirements?

Then you should use Rufus.

With this tool, I personally always create all my bootable USB drives, burn Windows 11 installation DVDs, and configure the installation right from the very first moment.

Why I Always Use Rufus with Windows 11:

  • Bypassing TPM & Secure Boot: With Rufus, you can easily disable those annoying Windows 11 system requirements (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot). No fiddling with registry hacks—just check the box, and you're done.
  • Force a local user account: No more mandatory Microsoft accounts: When creating the installation drive, Rufus can ensure that you install Windows 11 offline—without having to sign in and without being forced to use the cloud.
  • Fast & portable: No setup, no installation. Just boot up, select the ISO, insert the USB drive, and you're good to go. It works reliably even on older PCs.
  • No need to fiddle with the setup: Rufus handles all the settings automatically. If you don't know anything about partition types, file systems, or boot modes—no problem. Just click START.

  • Ideal for older hardware: Want to install Windows 11 on an old PC that’s supposed to be phased out? With Rufus and the right settings, it works—even without TPM, Secure Boot, or UEFI. For example, I use it to install Windows 11 on my MacBooks, since they aren’t „officially“ supported.
  • Free & Open Source: It costs nothing, isn't a hassle, and always works. Rufus is one of the few tools you can recommend without hesitation.

The following three steps will create a bootable USB stick from the Windows 11 ISO that you can use directly for installation:

Important: Back up or delete all data from the USB drive beforehand – it will be completely overwritten!

  1. Download the "Rufus" tool from this page https://rufus.ie/de and launch it.
  2. Then click the „Select“ button to choose the ISO file you downloaded above:

Rufus and file selection window on screen

Select the previously downloaded Windows 11 ISO file. Usually in the downloads folder, e.g., „Win11_25H2_German_x64.iso“).

Press start - done. At least ALMOST!

  • If you want to set the requirements as described above, click on the settings (such as Remove Requirement for TPM...), in case they are not set yet. A click on „START“ is enough – Rufus will automatically create a bootable USB drive with your Windows 11 ISO.

The stick is then immediately ready for installation on any compatible PC.

Third step: Install Windows 11 25H2 with bootable USB stick

Now that you've created either the USB drive or the bootable Windows 11 installation using the ISO file, it's time to reinstall Windows 11:

1. Insert the USB drive, restart the PC: Insert the USB drive (or insert the DVD) and restart the PC. In many cases, the Windows 11 installation will start automatically.

❗ If not: When turning on the computer, press the DEL, F2, or F12 key (depending on the manufacturer) to enter the UEFI/BIOS menu.

Finger presses Delete key on keyboard
Finger presses F2 on keyboard.

There, make sure the PC boots from the USB flash drive or DVD—not from the hard drive. In my example, I was able to select the USB flash drive directly under „Boot Priority“ in MSI ClickBios and move it all the way to the left:

BIOS screen with temperature and hardware information

If that doesn't work, you can usually find the appropriate settings under "Settings" and "Boot." There, click on the "Boot Option #1" and select the USB flash drive.

At least that's how it looks in the UEFI/BIOS of my MSI X870E Godlike motherboard – that could of course vary!

All set? Then save the settings, make sure the USB flash drive is plugged in, and restart your PC or laptop.

2. As soon as the setup begins: If prompted, click on the language settings and select the keyboard settings. In the next step, choose „Windows 11“ (Install Windows 11):

Windows 11 Select setup options screen

After that, you can enter the product key. If you don't have it on hand right now, you can also select "I don't have a product key." In that case, however, you'll need to select the edition (Home, Pro—in my case, it's Pro) for which you'll have or purchase a key later.

Windows 11 setup screen for operating system selection.

Finally, accept the license agreements and click Install.

Now it can get complicated, as you have to choose which drive Windows 11 should be installed on:

Windows 11 Installation Partition selection

In my case, three SSDs are installed (Windows 11, Games, Volume – see above). Most of the time, you should choose „Disk 0“ and select the partition with the most storage space here – make sure that it is a „Primary“ partition. Drives labeled System or MSR will not work. Then click „Next“ and the setup will start!

Windows 11 installation running, 9% completed.
