Quick overview:

The latest smartphones, especially those from Apple, are anything but cheap. This makes it all the more annoying when the expensive device lands on the floor and breaks due to a careless movement. But that doesn't have to be the case, because there are useful smartphone cases designed to cushion the impact. Find out here what you need to consider when choosing the right cell phone case.

The different models
Which will hardly surprise anyone: There is now a huge selection of different smartphone cases on the market. And as is so often the case, the different models have different advantages and disadvantages.
You can choose between soft and hard cases. The latter are - as the name suggests - protective covers made from a hard material that is simply attached to the back of the smartphone. It is important that the hard case fits the smartphone perfectly. If it is too big and even wobbles, it will hardly be able to protect the phone in the event of a fall. In the worst case, hard cases that are too small can also damage the expensive phone more than they protect it.
Fortunately, hard cases are available for all popular models, so you don't have to worry too much in this respect.
The advantage of hard cases is that they can be customize can be customized. For example with a photo or small lettering. These cases are also perfect as a birthday or Christmas present. And especially then you should make sure that the hard case fits exactly on the smartphone of the person you want to give the gift to.

Softcases: the soft alternative
In addition to the hard cases that you can buy for your smartphone, there are also soft cases, which are usually made of Silicone are made.
The soft covers also protect the smartphone in the event of a fall. They even get their name from the fact that they do this particularly well. In addition to soft cases, these cases are also called bumpers. The soft material means that the impact is cushioned in the event of a fall. And better than with a hard case.
Another advantage of the soft alternative: they also completely enclose the cell phone from behind (provided you buy the right one for your model), but are usually a few millimetres larger than the dimensions of the smartphone. This means that the display also benefits from minimal protection. However, you really need a good soft case for this. Because the advantages offered by the soft alternative can also quickly become a disadvantage. This is when the phone simply flies out of the case if it is dropped because the material was too soft.

All-round protection: flip or book cases
If you don't want to take this risk, you can usually rely on flip or book cases. These cases enclose the smartphone from all sides and therefore also protect the display directly.
Flipcases can be opened from bottom to top, while bookcases open like a book.
However, with this extra protection comes a little less practicality. This is because flip or book cases have to be opened to make calls or surf the internet.
In contrast to the cases that close around the smartphone from behind, they can sometimes be a little awkward. Many users find it annoying when part of the case is in front of their head or hangs down almost to their shoulders when making calls.
But there is an alternative.

The solution: A combination of different cell phone cases

What if you could combine the advantages of both types of cell phone cases? Then you would have a really great solution to protect the display and at the same time be able to make phone calls or surf the net without any major hindrances. And it actually works. Simply by using a protective cover such as a bumper or a hard case for the back of the smartphone. This protects the phone from drops.
But be careful: hard cases made of metal are also available on the market from time to time. This material is not recommended for protective cases for smartphones. They have a whole range of disadvantages: They can have a disruptive effect on reception and therefore also make it harder to be understood even during phone calls. There is also the assumption that metal covers have a negative effect on the battery and cause it to discharge more quickly. Metal smartphone cases may look good, but with such disadvantages, the look is hardly worth it.
So let's stick with hard or soft cases made from a soft material. In the event of a fall, the cell phone is protected insofar as the impact is cushioned by the soft material.

Protective film: additional protection for the display
However, we still need protection for the display, which usually suffers the most damage in the event of an impact. But there is also a practical solution for this, which is also almost invisible: protective film. This film is simply stuck onto the display and protects it from scratches and cracks. Especially if you tend to carry your keys in the same pocket as your smartphone, you should use a protective film.
Applying the film can be a little difficult the first time, as you really need to make sure that there are no air bubbles that you accidentally trap in the film. Fortunately, most manufacturers of protective films for smartphone displays provide appropriate tips so that, with a little patience, the film can be applied to the display easily.
