Browser game does not load after login: check cookies in Chrome

Updated: October 9, 2026
Published: 9th October 2026
  • Targetly check an empty browser window: Windows 11 users with Chrome can use this comparison to determine whether blocked third-party cookies interfere with loading after logging in.
  • Only allow the affected game page to be accessed: A website exception leaves the global cookie setting unchanged, but it is not automatically limited to a single embedded game service.
  • “Temporarily” can mean up to 90 days: This is the length of time the permission granted via the address bar in the normal window is valid, unless you turn it off beforehand.
  • Withdraw testing release without improvement: Do not keep an ineffective exception. Record the before-after findings for game support.

Quick overview:

You’re using Chrome on a Windows 11 PC, logging in to a gaming site – and instead of the browser game, you only see an empty area or a loading circle. Then, a targeted cookie check is worth doing if Chrome blocks third-party cookies on this page.

Browser game does not load after logging in: When is the cookie test worth it?

An empty browser window does not indicate a cookie error. However, Google explains that websites that rely on third-party cookies may not function as expected when blocked. The logical next step is therefore to compare the situation with only one modified setting – no reinstallation and no complete deletion of all browser data.

The Windows Tweaks team has evaluated the Chrome help on cookies and website exceptions and compared the crucial deadlines with the English version. The following testing sequence and comparison of the releases result from this. We have not tested any specific game on Windows. The menu labels follow the help accessed; depending on the Chrome version, the interface may differ. As of October 9, 2026.

The important difference: Own cookies come from the site you are visiting. Third-party cookies come from other websites whose content is embedded there. When a game or related service runs in such an embedded format, cookie blocking is a possible explanation – not the actual cause automatically.

This guide only addresses this charging error. If instead a red Chrome warning appears about a dangerous website, stop the call; a cookie exception does not fix this warning. Google explains the difference in its help on dangerous websites.

1. Note the initial state before you change anything

First, stay in the Chrome window where the problem occurs. Note the address of the game page, the error message, and whether the game stays empty, keeps loading, or jumps back to the login. Do not start the comparison during a game round in progress or a payment: the next step reloads the page.

Check the address bar to see if Chrome indicates “Block third-party cookies.” The basic setting and existing exceptions can be found under Settings → Privacy and Security → Third-party cookies. You can also look in the list “Websites that are allowed to use third-party cookies”.

If third-party cookies are already allowed, or the affected page has already been given an exception, another identical exception will not give you a useful comparison. Note this state for support instead of setting additional exceptions. A cookie banner on the game page and Chrome's own cookie setting are also two different things.

Do not delete any cookies for this comparison and do not change any other permissions. Google points out that deleting cookies can log you out and remove stored settings. This would additionally change the initial state.

2. Allow third-party cookies for the affected page

If Chrome blocks the cookies and you want to run the test, use the site exception in the address bar:

  1. On the affected page, select the “Block third-party cookies” icon.
  2. Activate “Third-party cookies” in the opened dialog.
  3. Close the dialog. According to the Chrome help, the page is reloaded when you do.
  4. Open the same game again and note whether the behavior has changed. Leave all other settings unchanged.

The switch is missing? The Chrome help also describes the way to do this via the settings: Under “Websites that can use third-party cookies” → Add, you enter the web address. For comparison purposes, you do not need a blanket permission for all websites. A manually added entry also applies in incognito mode; then, remove exactly this test entry again.

The authorization via the address bar refers to the visited website. It does not promise any restriction on a single embedded game service. Third-party cookies can also be used to track activities across websites. A website exception is therefore a limited change, but not an authorization without privacy implications.

3. Evaluate the result and revoke the test exception

Our decision-making aid separates three possible outcomes:

  • The game will only load after the release: The cookie setting is a plausible influencing factor. This is not yet conclusive proof of cause, as reloading or a related problem with the provider that was fixed at the same time can also play a role. Note the difference.
  • The game remains empty: The change did not help in this comparison. Take it back; further blanket cookie releases are not justified by this.
  • You land on the login page again: Keep this result as well. It does not confirm a password problem or a cookie issue. Avoid further simultaneous changes.

You can reverse the switch test by opening "Allow third-party cookies" in the address bar and deactivating "Third-party cookies" again. You can remove a manually entered entry from the exception list via "Remove ". Previously created exceptions remain unaffected.

Taking back access and deleting data are separate steps. If you want to remove additional stored website data from this page after the comparison, you can find it under Settings → Privacy and Security → Third-party cookies → View all website data and permissions. Find the page and select “Delete”. This can log you out and remove stored settings. Before deleting, make sure to clear where your game saves its progress; for the cookie comparison itself, this clearing is not necessary.

Closing the tab alone is not enough in the normal window. The temporary release via the address bar can last for 90 days there. After comparing the two, consciously decide whether you want to take it back or need it for further use.

Which cookie exception lasts how long?

For this comparison, we contrasted three ways described in the Chrome help. The time limit depends on how and in which window you set the exception.

Cookie exceptions: duration and way back according to the Chrome help
Type of exceptionDuration and way back
Address bar in the normal windowFor up to 90 days or until you switch it off. Switch it off again via the same icon.
Address bar in incognito windowFor the Incognito session. Switch it off via the icon or close all Incognito windows.
Manually created website exceptionThe help does not specify a fixed automatic expiration period. Applies in normal and incognito mode; delete the test entry via „Remove“.

Why Incognito alone does not provide a diagnosis

With Ctrl + Shift + N, you can open an incognito window in Windows. Chrome starts a separate session in it; third-party cookies are blocked by default. However, existing website exceptions can still apply there as well.

“Normal browsing doesn’t work; in incognito mode it does,” therefore is no proof of a specific cause. The session state differs. If you use incognito for the cookie comparison, first record the actual blocking state there and then compare it before and after the release within this window.

The privacy mode ends here with the Incognito session. All Incognito windows must be closed, not just the game tab. Incognito does not make you anonymous to websites and network operators; Google explains these limits in the documentation for Incognito mode.

No improvement? Take your findings to support

If the targeted cookie comparison doesn’t change anything, don’t randomly switch between them. “Website data on the device” is, for example, a separate setting: it affects the storage of data on your device and can influence logins regardless of a third-party permission. Google describes this distinction in the help for “Website data on the device”. This does not yet mean that you need to change this setting.

Instead, send the game support a usable finding: the address of the affected page, the game name, the Windows and Chrome version, the time, the exact error text, the normal or obfuscated browser window, and the result before and after the cookie test. A screenshot with the Windows Snipping Tool can document the blank area or error message. Delete personal data, account balances, and payment information before shipping.

Our conclusion: A single website release with a documented before-and-after comparison provides concrete evidence. If the effect is not achieved, reverse the change. General browser or Windows optimization cannot be inferred from this error pattern.
