Quick overview:
Resetting Internet Explorer - why? After some time of use and countless updates, errors creep into many programs, even web browsers such as Internet Explorer are not always spared from such problems. The solutions at a glance.
Resetting Internet Explorer - there is often no way around it: for many people today, using a PC can be equated with using the Internet. Browsers are the most frequently used programs - and so it is hardly surprising that Microsoft's web browser no longer behaves as it did on the first day after some time.
If Internet Explorer crashes frequently or you want to delete personal data such as bookmarks and histories for other reasons, you can reset the software. An unfavorable display of page content, poor performance or incompatible add-ons are also reasons to reset Internet Explorer.
If resetting the browser is not enough, Microsoft offers a simple and free diagnostic tool: The self-explanatory and Internet Explorer Fix it is designed to provide first aid.
Reset Internet Explorer to factory settings with just a few mouse clicks
It is not necessary to completely remove Internet Explorer from the hard disk and reinstall it. This is how the Microsoft browser can be reset:
- Click on the cogwheel icon in the top right-hand corner to open the settings.
- Then select "Options" and switch to the "Advanced" tab.
- Here you must then check the "Delete personal settings" box and confirm this selection with "Reset".
- If you now close the program and open it again, all settings will be in the delivery state.
Reset Internet Explorer and repair without specialist knowledge
If you reset Internet Explorer as described, you can usually fix errors that have to do with an unfavorable display, for example. If you have changed the font size or similar, it may be that some websites were not displayed correctly - this problem is now probably solved.
For more serious bugs, however, the Internet Explorer reset will not be enough.
Internet Explorer Fix it can increase performance
If some add-ons no longer work despite reinstallation or if performance and stability suffer, the Fix-it tool can help. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft Fix-it Support Center.
With Internet Explorer Fix it, a targeted diagnosis can be carried out for these difficulties. It also automatically fixes potential problems.
However, you should check the settings again afterwards: Because Fix it also restores default settings that may not be deliberately wanted. For example, the security level is changed back to the default setting and the pop-up blocker is reactivated.
If the low performance results from a cache that is too large and robs you of valuable working memory, Fix it sets default values between 50 and 250 MB here again.
