Quick overview:
Attention owners of NVIDIA graphics cards: For the best picture and smooth graphics when gaming, you should always keep your graphics card driver up to date. Find out how here. [Sandro Villinger]
Updating the driver is normally not rocket science: The manufacturer nVidia can be found at the address http://www.nvidia.de/Download/index.aspx?lang=de Current and certified drivers for desktop PCs and (many) notebooks with NVIDIA graphics chips. Simply select and download. Done! This is the easiest way for most users. In two cases, however, you are better off using unofficial drivers:
- If you are not satisfied with the performance of the official drivers or they even cause problems on your PC.
- If the unofficial drivers have an important graphics function or setting that is missing from the official drivers.
- If you have a notebook and none of the official nVidia drivers work for you (see screenshot above)
If one of the points applies to you, you should try the unofficial driver versions from forums.laptopvideo2go.com try. On this page you will find graphics card drivers that nVidia issues to developers or partners and does not yet make available to the public. These drivers are always newer than the official versions from nVidia - often even one driver generation further!
In addition, LaptopVideo2Go modifies the unofficial drivers so that all desktop graphics cards and notebook chips are supported without exception. This is not always guaranteed with the official drivers. You can find out how to download and install the drivers here:
- Open the page http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/and click on the latest driver generation in the "NVIDIA Drivers and Tools" section. At the time of this blog post, the "26x series" is current:
- In the next step, select the appropriate driver for your PC or notebook. On a notebook with Windows 7 64-bit, for example, I select:
- First click on "Download Driver" to save the driver on the hard disk. Note: Please also read the note below. Then right-click on "INF Modified" to save the modification file.
- You will end up with the following two files on your hard disk:
Double-click on the file and click on "Extract". All driver files will then be extracted.
- It is now necessary to copy the "NV_DISP.INF" to the correct location in the driver folder. To do this, open the "Display.Driver" subfolder in the driver folder and insert the modified "NV_DISP.INF". Now confirm the overwriting of the existing file:
- Done! Now start the installation by double-clicking on the "Setup.exe" contained in the folder! Don't worry, Windows creates a system restore point before each driver installation so that you can switch to the previous driver at any time in an emergency. During the installation, click on "Install this driver software anyway".
Note: Before downloading the driver, it is advisable to read the - unfortunately English-language - driver article (e.g. on the Driver 263.09) first. Here, other testers report on how well the driver works and usually even provide benchmarks. If there are problems, you should try a different driver.
