Quick overview:
Online services such as "Save.TV" are popular with TV fans who no longer want to miss a series and download movies for free are very popular. These offerings - in addition to "Save.TV", there is also "Bong.TV" and "OnlineTVRecorder.com", for example - function as a kind of online video recorder that allows customers to record any TV program live, save it in the cloud and watch it later.
What does Save.TV do?
At Save.TV you can watch almost the entire program online. Record TV program and watch them later - on a PC, tablet or smartphone. Users can select the programs they want to record using the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). These recordings are then stored on the provider's servers. Films and movies can then be Stream series or download them to your own computer and archive them. The recording quality is between 720 x 576 pixels in the basic package and 1280 x 720 pixels (i.e. HD quality) in the XL package.
These products are not without legal controversy. The private broadcasters, for example, do not like the fact that Save.TV recordings are available ad-free on request. Nevertheless, the providers of online video recorders are of the opinion that they meet the technical requirements of the Federal Court of Justice in a ruling of 11.04.2013 on the permissibility of online video recorders, in which an infringement of reproduction rights does not occur. It is still disputed whether the retransmission rights must be licensed.
The Save.TV service can be tried out free of charge for 14 days. After that, there are two subscription models to choose from: The "Basic" package (from 6.99 euros per month) offers up to 50 hours of video archive. If you want to save unlimited films and series, watch your programs without advertising and need an app for a mobile device, you need to opt for the "XL" package (from 9.99 euros per month).
New app now also for Windows smartphones
Save.TV has a new app that can be used to download ad-free TV programs to smartphones and tablets with the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system and is now available in the Windows Phone Store. An app for the final version of Windows 10 has also been announced. The programs downloaded via the app can be viewed on almost any HDMI TV if a suitable Miracast stick is connected. With the Miracast standard, the wireless network connection is established directly between the smartphone or tablet and the stick on the TV. Before the Windows app, Android and iOS apps were already available for smartphones and tablets. Save.TV is also available via app on Samsung smart TVs.
