Windows supports countless fax devices - and offers many ways to send faxes. Microsoft knows that the fax is and remains useful, especially for business Windows users. A fax is often absolutely essential for them: If, for example, a contract is to be terminated, a written document is required for this - an email is not sufficient.
Fax machines - appropriate in business environments
Faxing is more convenient than sending a letter by post. And fax machines are actually always appropriate when sending or receiving business faxes. However, people often shy away from the one-off, manageable investment.
In such a case, the Windows PC is usually upgraded to a fax machine. In addition to a standard telephone connection, a fax modem is required for this - as mentioned above. Some computers do not include one - and the appropriate device must first be purchased and then set up.
The fax modem - built into many notebooks
We show you how to fax from any Windows 7 PC with little effort.
A fax modem is a prerequisite for faxing via Windows 7. While some laptops are equipped with an internal device, the fax modem for a desktop computer usually has to be purchased as an external modem. However, the financial outlay is limited with the communication interfaces available in any computer store.
After purchase, the computer can be connected to a standard telephone line via the modem.
To set up the Windows fax function, click as follows in Windows 7:
- First click on "Start",
- then click on "All programs" and
- Now select the menu item "Fax and scan"
If you select "Fax" under the "Fax and Scan" menu item in the left-hand area and "Create new fax" in the toolbar, a dialog box opens.
- Here you should select "Connect to a fax modem",
- A wizard then starts, where you only need to follow the instructions.
- Then click on "Select later, create a fax now" in the corresponding dialog box and a fax can be sent immediately.
Only receiving is not yet possible. However, if the wizard is completed, faxes can also be received.
The fax server - when the modem becomes superfluous
A fax machine is always necessary, especially in company networks, if no fax server is available.
A fax server can be used to establish a connection that takes over communication in the telephone network. All that is required is that the PC can establish a connection with the server.
Select the following in the wizard:
- "Connect to a fax server in the network",
- Now you can enter the address of the fax server in the further course of the wizard and
- then nothing stands in the way of sending faxes.
