Next Xbox merges with PC gaming: Leaks reveal details of Microsoft's new video game console

Updated: October 14, 2025
Published: October 13, 2025
Quick overview:

Oktober 2025:

  • Leistung:
    • 9–11 Zen 6-Kerne

Microsoft surprises the gaming world: Even die-hard fans of the Xbox would not have expected this - the tech giant is currently completely revamping its games console concept for the next Xbox generation. The release is expected in 2027 - because it is already clear that the new Sony PlayStation will probably be released between 2027 and 2028.

The predecessors Xbox Series X and S were launched on November 10, 2020 - also almost at the same time as the PlayStation 5. And in 2027, Microsoft's slow transition of its PC operating system from Windows 10 to Windows 11 should also be complete, which could play a major role in the new concept. Admittedly, we don't know too much so far. However, one or two explosive details are already known...

Xbox-PC hybrid instead of pure console - a fresh concept

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony PlayStation have all launched consoles on the market to date.

Apart from the Nintendo handhelds, manufacturers are focusing on classic home consoles.

Now a completely new concept is to be pursued with the next Xbox:

The device will not be designed for pure console use as before, but will seamlessly connect the ecosystems of PC and Xbox.

This opens up several options for playing - both stationary and on the move.

With this fresh concept, Microsoft wants to break down the boundaries of traditional consoles so that players no longer have to limit themselves to a single device.

This information comes from a leak that the always well-informed Youtuber Moore's Law is Dead made public:

New reward systems could intensify the gaming experience

To what extent the reward systems of the new Xbox will be linked to real money mechanics and comparable incentive structures is not yet clear. What is beyond question is that players will once again be able to collect points and unlock digital content. Whether the system will go beyond this and possibly even resemble an online casino no deposit bonus, however, is only speculation.

If the new Xbox dares to intertwine with iGaming, this could have far-reaching consequences for the gaming landscape.

However, Microsoft would also have to deal with regulatory hurdles.

Steam access is expected to be one of the biggest innovations

The integrated support for Steam will undoubtedly be one of the biggest innovations of the upcoming Xbox.

This integration will give gamers almost limitless flexibility in terms of their game library. With the support of Steam via a Windows 11-based client, the Xbox could finally establish itself as a fully-fledged gaming platform. For several months now the Xbox app on Windows has been displaying all Steam games installed on the PC.

Opening up to third-party platforms certainly makes sense. After all, Microsoft is the only console provider with the necessary infrastructure to smoothly connect console and PC gaming.

Complete backwards compatibility opens up unlimited game worlds

Backwards compatibility is a decisive criterion that more and more gamers are paying attention to. This is understandable, as it is extremely frustrating to have built up an extensive game collection and then only be able to play it on the old console.

If a console is backwards compatible, this problem does not exist, as the old games can simply be played conveniently on the new device. So far, Microsoft seems to be taking this request into account.

Die kommende Konsole wird laut Experten komplett abwärtskompatibel sein, was gepaart mit der Steam-Integration nahezu unbegrenzte Spielwelten zugänglich machen dürfte.

Players should only be aware that there may always be licensing or technical restrictions. Complete compatibility of all titles is therefore not feasible.

New Xbox 2 leaks: This release information is known so far

For a long time, there was practically no information on the performance of the new console.

According to the leak from Youtuber Moore's Law is Dead, the next Xbox will have a state-of-the-art RDNA graphics architecture from AMD and a powerful processor.

In addition, there is an ultra-fast SSD memory for a smooth gaming experience.

Die Spezifikationen dürften damit die der bisherigen Modelle deutlich übertreffen:

Technische Spezifikationen der kommenden Xbox-Konsole („AMD Magnus“ APU)

    • Chipdesign: 144 mm² SoC (N3P) + 264 mm² GPU (N3C/P) = insgesamt 408 mm²
    • Leistungsaufnahme (TDP): geschätzt 250–350 W
    • Grafikeinheit:
      • 68 RDNA 5 Compute Units (von maximal 70 CU aktiv)
    • Shader Engines: insgesamt 3 × 9 WGP + 1 × 8 WGP
    • Jede Shader Engine besitzt 2 Shader Arrays
  • Cache: mindestens 24 MB L2-Cache für die GPU
  • Prozessor: bis zu 3 × Zen 6 + 8 × Zen 6c Kerne mit 12 MB L3-Cache
  • Speicher: 192-Bit Speicherbus mit bis zu 48 GB GDDR7-RAM
  • KI-Beschleuniger (NPU):
    • Bis zu 110 TOPS bei 6 W oder 46 TOPS bei 1,2 W (zwei Leistungsmodi)
  • Geplanter Release: 2027
  • Quelle: Moore’s Law Is Dead (YouTube, 9. Oktober 2025)

However, nothing is known about the planned release. Although Microsoft has officially confirmed the first prototypes and is therefore one step ahead of the competition, there are no real plans for a concrete release date.

It is therefore quite possible that the new Xbox will be released around the same time as the PlayStation 6. However, an earlier release is currently much more likely.
