The Windows 10 roll-out begins: Windows 7 and Windows 8 PC users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 on demand starting July 29, and the offer is available for one year.
PC users first at the start
All PC users with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 as their current operating system can be the first to download and use the new software free of charge. The offer is valid for a period of one year. If you would like to upgrade book here now can be downloaded. The free upgrade is also available to users who have unlicensed Windows software installed on their PC - albeit with restrictions. After the upgrade, the system generates a watermark on the desktop, which informs the user that the new Windows version is also unlicensed - the user is then prompted to purchase the update.
Bye-bye, Internet Explorer
With the roll-out of Windows 10, a new Microsoft browser is celebrating its premiere. Called "Spartan" in the project phase, "Edge" replaces the veteran Internet Explorer after more than 20 years. The new browser supports Firefox and Chrome extensions, and the Cortana voice assistant is also integrated into it.
Three variants available
There will be three versions of Windows 10 in the desktop version: Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise. Home is for private customers, while the other two versions have additional management functions and Windows 10 Enterprise is only available with multiple or volume licenses, which are more cost-effective for companies.
Update option for XP computers?
Users who still have the old Windows XP installed on their PC can possibly hope for an inexpensive upgrade version of Windows 10. Microsoft hopes that this will help to ensure that the outdated Windows XP, which is no longer supported by Microsoft with security updates, continues to disappear from the market. According to industry insiders, the upgrade could cost 40 dollars - for this amount, customers still using Windows XP would receive a one-off download of Windows 10 Home in the x86 version. The offer would be processed via the Microsoft corporate website.
