Quick overview:
Whether it's taking notes from university lectures, making notes while surfing the web or writing down important appointments in the office - Microsoft's OneNote is replacing the classic notepad for more and more users. However, the software can do much more than just take notes. Find out here how to exploit its potential with the right OneNote tricks.
OneNote tricks: Simply use PDF files
OneNote can be used to open and edit PDF files, for example. However, the prerequisite is that you have installed Adobe Reader, which is usually mandatory anyway. To do this, select "Files" and "Print file" in the OneNote ribbon under "Insert".
You can now select and open the relevant document. You can use the "Copy text from this page of the printout" command to copy only the current image section into your notes, or you can use "Copy text from all pages of the printout" to paste the entire document.
An interesting feature for online research is the option to save individual sections of web pages in OneNote: Simply select "Send to OneNote" under "Tools" in Internet Explorer. This not only saves the marked text section including the time stamp in OneNote, but also the corresponding link.
However, these OneNote tips do not only work in Internet Explorer, in other browsers you will find the corresponding OneNote entry in the "Print menu".
Work even more productively with OneNote templates
The creation of OneNote templates should also be of interest to many users. This can significantly speed up the creation of notebooks according to your own preferences.
To do this, simply select "New" under "File" and then "Page". Then click repeatedly under "File" on the entry "Set up page", where you can define the basic formatting such as font and font size as well as the spacing of the margins. You can now also enter recurring content that you require in the template.
Under "Set up page" there is the entry "Save current page as template", where you can of course assign a name to the document. If you create your notes in OneNote, you will naturally also want to access them on the go. You can find free apps for Android, iOS and Windows Phone - registration with Microsoft is required to use them.
Useful OneNote tips simplify research
You may be familiar with the situation: you find interesting websites or PDF documents while researching online. Of course, you can simply bookmark the links, but the right OneNote tricks can help you capture important discoveries more quickly. For example, you can insert individual sections of text into your notes with just a few clicks of the mouse. Further OneNote tips relate to the OneNote templates: this allows you to create your personal notebooks even faster.
