Quick overview:
Many Windows 10 users find the default privacy settings not very user-friendly. The free DoNotSpy10 tool can help them - it allows you to keep an eye on all relevant privacy options and easily adjust them.
DoNotSpy10 gathers all data protection settings in Windows 10 under one user interface - and makes configuration child's play.
The tool works well and is recommended by IT blogs due to its useful functions - but the following applies during installation: The user-defined mode should always be selected in order to prevent other, unwanted programs from being installed. Express installation is therefore not recommended.
Set Windows 10 data protection with DoNotSpy10
After starting DoNotSpy10 for the first time, the tool asks whether a restore point should be created - which should be answered with Yes in order to be able to undo all changes just in case.
The following customizations are possible with DoNotSpy10:
- On the left-hand side of the user interface, all data protection settings are listed that can be used to configure whether and how Windows 10 is allowed to exchange data with Microsoft.
- App permissions can also be adjusted, such as the access rights for microphone, location data (localization) and camera.
- In addition, automatic drivers and updates can be switched off and Windows 10 upgrades can be delayed-.
The operation of DoNotSpy10 is very simple:
- If a setting is required, a tick must be placed in front of it.
- Then click on the "Apply" button to apply the new data protection settings.
If you don't know exactly what an option means, you can click on the relevant option to display a brief explanation.
DoNotSpy10 installation does not work? Turn off Windows Defender on Windows 10!
On some Windows 10 systems, DoNotSpy10 cannot be installed - this is usually due to the Windows Defender security tool integrated into Windows 10.
The Microsoft program probably blocks DoNotSpy10 because adware (harmless but unwanted third-party software) is installed during installation if you are not careful (see above).
The remedy is to temporarily deactivate Windows Defender - until DoNotSpy10 has been downloaded and installed.
How to temporarily disable Windows Defender:
- Use the Windows + i key combination to open the Windows settings.
- Click on the "Update and security" button.
- Now select "Windows Defender" on the left-hand side and set the switch to the right of it to "Off" (directly under the heading "Real-time protection").
Then DoNotSpy10 is installed as described above - and then Windows Defender can be switched on again.
