Quick overview:
It's a tradition at Microsoft: Successful Windows versions alternate with failures.
This was the case when switching from Windows XP to Windows Vista or, more recently, from Windows 7 to the current Windows 8, which can be described as a real failure in terms of desktop use.
As a result, the latest Windows version, which has been available to download free of charge as a Technical Preview since September 30, 2014, should once again be completely convincing.
How does Windows 10 perform in desktop mode?
Probably the biggest criticism of Windows 8 is the completely redesigned user interface, which is extremely practical when using devices with touchscreens, but makes it more difficult to use on desktop PCs. It is therefore all the more pleasing that, despite the current technology trend, the new Windows once again has the tried-and-tested Start menu, which makes operation via keyboard and mouse much easier.
However, the Start menu is by no means the only optimization for desktop operation that the new Windows 10 brings with it: for example, the so-called "Task View", which multitasking fans in particular should be pleased about. The Task View function allows you to create a virtual desktop with its own program shortcuts for each task. With regard to multitasking, it is also worth mentioning that, unlike the current version, Windows 10 no longer differentiates between apps and computer programs in the true sense of the word, meaning that they can finally be used in parallel.
It should also be noted that the window display has been revised so that the display size of apps can be freely adjusted.

The greatest strengths of Windows 10
As the Task View function in the taskbar alone makes clear, Windows 10 focuses on user-defined individualization. In addition, collaboration with other devices, whether other desktop PCs or smartphones and tablets, should be even easier than before.
The Technical Preview makes a promising impression
Even if it is still too early for a final verdict, the current technical preview already gives an indication that Windows 10 will surpass all previous Windows versions by far in terms of usability, functionality and stability.
