Quick overview:
The conventional Windows Media Player plays all forms of audio and video files, but one very important source cannot be accessed: The DVD. It is impossible to watch DVD videos with the player in the conventional way, which is why you have to dig deep into the heart of Windows:
WMP - Playback of videos and music
1. Click on Run in the Start menu. A dialog will appear in which you enter regedit.
2. Navigate through the following branches of the Windows registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Settings. Right-click in the right-hand pane and select New/string. Name this self-created value EnableDVDUI.
3. Now double-click on it and enter a Yes. You now have a new function called Open DVD. From this moment on you are allowed to enjoy DVD movies with the Media Player. It is important to note that this trick only works if you already have a software DVD player (and do not want to use it) and if you have downloaded Media Player 6.4.
