Quick overview:
After clicking on "Start/switch off/switch off nothing happens for a long time? The message "Settings are saved" appears on the screen for several minutes? This could have to do with processes or services that cannot be unloaded correctly. We will show you how to deal with these problems and shut down Windows completely within a few seconds:
Windows XP - Accelerate the shutdown process
Microsoft has now released the User Profile Hive Cleanup service, which takes care of the scheduling of critical services and processes during shutdown and thus the correct logoff.
1. Click on this link and then click on the "Continue" button. Now run the Windows validity check and then click on "Download files below" to the download page. Download the small 350 KB file!
2. Double-click on the downloaded file and select "Next". Now accept the license agreements ("I agree") and confirm with "Next". In the following window, select the target path and then click on "Next" to start the installation. With "Close" button to close the wizard.
3. You will then find the service under "Start/(Settings)/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services" under "User Profile Hive Cleanup". A double click is sufficient. Now you can check the settings under "Startup type": "Automatic" should be set here!
We hope that this tip has helped you to speed up the time to shutdown!
