Quick overview:
If you are the proud owner of high-speed DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) access and have installed Windows XP, you will certainly notice the long pause that the operating system takes immediately after booting up. Unfortunately, nothing happens for a minute and you have to wait this long to be able to work with the computer. This is because Windows is searching for a network during this time. Since DSL uses the network card, it tries to find such a network for this whole minute - without success. Users who access the Internet via cable/DSL must select the network card which is responsible for the home network and which is not connected to the Internet. To prevent this delay, proceed as follows:
Check LAN connections
1. Click in succession on Start and then to System control. First select Network and Internet connections and from the list that appears, select the entry Network connections out.
2. Click under LAN and high-speed Internet with the right mouse button on your LAN connection and select the entry Properties.
3. A new window appears in which you can check the box in front of Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and remove with OK confirm.
After the next system start, you will be rid of this annoying problem once and for all!
Alternative solution for the 1 minute DSL problem during startup
If you would also like to use your network card for its actual purpose (i.e. for a LAN), I recommend that you proceed as follows:
1. Double-click on the connection icon and select Properties.
2. In the following window, select Internet protocol (TCP/IP and click again on Properties.
3. Now select the entry Use the following IP address.
And enter everything according to the settings made in the screenshot.
