Quick overview:
The year was 2010, when Apple triggered the tablet boom with its iPad - since then, a lot has happened in this market segment, especially with Windows-based tablet PCs. This year will be no different - here is an overview of three tablet PCs of the latest generation. Small computers for at home and on the movewhich shine with interesting features and state-of-the-art design.
Acer Iconia Tab 8 W
The Acer Iconia Tab 8 W tablet PC comes in a white design for only around 150 euros and initially impresses with its battery life of almost six hours and solid build quality. Features include a MicroSD memory card reader and a Micro USB port on the top, a WLAN module and a Bluetooth chip. The Acer tablet PC has a webcam and a camera - both have a resolution of 2 megapixels, which should be sufficient for snapshots. The touchscreen responds quickly to all input commands.
HP Stream 8 5900ng
The new Tablet PC from HP is also in the entry-level price segment with a price of around 200 euros and surprises with a 3G modem including data volume and a solid battery life of almost five and a half hours. It uses a Bay Trail processor, which is standard in almost all cheaper Windows tablets. In return, the Stream 8 boasts a high-quality finish and a particularly bright IPS screen. Less attractive is the somewhat sparse memory of just 1 GB RAM - probably a compromise that has to be made in this price range.
Dell Venue 8 Pro
This new product from Dell is equipped with a HD display which is characterized by outstanding image contrast. The 8-inch tablet PC designed for the business segment is equipped with an Atom CPU from Intel and Windows 8.1 (32-bit) is already on board. Microsoft's Office Home & Student Edition is also included. The tablet PC is almost ideal as a second device for mobile office users - the only drawback is that it lacks a connection for an external monitor. Optional accessories for the Dell Venue 8 Pro include protective covers, an active stylus and a wireless keyboard. The 32 GB version costs around 200 euros, the 64 GB version just under 300 euros.
