Quick overview:
A file manager such as Pocket File Manager ensures that your smartphone is properly organized: it allows you to find and save all files regardless of where they are stored. As with Windows Explorer, it is also ideally possible to access cloud storage without having to use a separate app - and files stored on a server can also be found.
Pleasant design
The decisive factors for a file manager, especially in the smartphone sector, are the overview and the variety of functions: because if the small display does not offer a tidy look, it is hardly possible to keep track of your data. Pocket File Manager is one of the most popular file managers in the Windows Phone Store (price: 1.99 euros, trial version only offers a preview function). It is convincing in terms of clarity: the design of the app adapts to the minimalism of Windows Phone, which is by no means a matter of course. This makes it easy to manage data on the go. However, the developers made a small faux pas when it comes to operation: the "Back" button does not take you back one folder level, but instead exits the File Manager. An additional button has been integrated to switch to the higher level - and the same step can be carried out with a swipe gesture from right to left.
Extensive equipment
The Pocket File Manager is fully equipped: The connection of more than five different cloud services is particularly interesting. Normally, mobile operating systems require a separate client for this data. Pocket File Manager not only eliminates the need for this additional app, it also enables integration into the normal folder structure. The setup is very simple: after selecting the cloud service, simply log in with your account. If, for example, you have set up a NAS server for data storage and transfer your files via the FTP protocol, the Pocket File Manager can also help and integration is also possible. However, the basic functions such as cutting, unpacking or packing as well as deleting or renaming files are a matter of course.
Conclusion: Solid file manager
The Pocket File Manager does its job well: it offers all the functions expected of a file manager and even allows the integration of cloud services and FTP servers. The design and clarity are also pleasing. The fact that the "Back" button closes the program is probably only a problem in the first few days. Then you get used to switching to the next higher level with a swipe gesture.
