Quick overview:
The digital ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) technology gives the Internet user an additional plus in speed compared to modems as well as a more stable connection. If you have an ISDN card in your computer and a corresponding telephone system, these instructions will help you to get your Windows XP up and running for ISDN. We use the AVM Fritz card as an example:
1. Click in succession on Start > System control and double-click on System in the next window.
2. Now switch to the tab Hardware and opt for the Hardware assistant. Confirm the greeting with Next and and select Yes, the hardware has already been connected.
3. Now scroll to the bottom of the list that appears and select Add new hardware. In the next window, calmly select the entry Select and install hardware manually from a list.
4. In the next window, select the entry Show all devices. The next step will lead you into a jungle of drivers, which you can skilfully avoid and switch to Data carrier click.
5. Insert the installation CD-ROM/diskette of your ISDN card into the drive and navigate to the driver file using the Explorer that appears (for more information, see the manual).
6. You may now be asked for the ISDN connection type, which you can select with European ISDN confirm. The wizard is now finished and you must restart your computer.
Now the CAPI port drivers are installed, which is also easy to do:
1. Start the CAPI port installation from your AVM installation CD/disk using the file Setup.exe and select only the top two options in the installation program that appears.
2. Windows asks for a restart again. This completes the ISDN installation and you can continue with the Dial-up to the Internet to dedicate.
