Quick overview:
How can you change browsers in Windows 10 and set them as default apps? Here is the solution: How to use Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer by default instead of the new Microsoft browser Edge.
How to change Windows 10 browser - the solution
With Windows 10, the way users can set the default browser in Microsoft's operating system has changed. The good news is that the solution has been simplified compared to previous versions of Windows.
How to change the Windows 10 browser:
- Open "Settings" in the Start menu (alternatively press the Windows key+i key combination).
- Click on "System".
- Now select "Standard apps" in the bottom left-hand column.
- Now scroll to "Web browser" and click on the browser icon displayed there.
- Now select the desired browser: Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox.
- Done - the mission to change the Windows 10 browser is complete.
Two things you still need to know when changing the Windows 10 browser
The first hint: If a desired browser is missing from the list under "Standard apps", the browser is not yet installed. This is normal on newly purchased PCs and new Windows 10 installations. If you want to change your Windows 10 browser to use a non-Microsoft browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, you must first install it - preferably via the website of the respective provider.
The second hint: If you reset your Windows 10 browser, you will see a dialog box the first time you start the program. Here you must uncheck the box next to "Check at every start" and click on "Do not change". Otherwise, the window will reappear each time the program is started.
