Quick overview:
Immediately after the first Windows start, it is recommended to create a quick and secure basis for all subsequent steps. These consist of defragmenting and checking the hard disk.
I bring order to the chaos
Immediately after a Windows installation, the data is often very disorganized. There is chaos on the hard disk, which is very detrimental to speed, as the data is scattered all over the hard disk. You can only remedy this with the Windows 2000 defragmentation program.
1. Click on the start menu at the bottom left and navigate via Programs > Accessories and System programs to the Defragmentation through.
2. As soon as the program starts, it is recommended that you select the hard disk with Windows 2000 and click on it with the right mouse button. A context menu opens in which you can select Defragment.
3. After waiting a few minutes, your hard disk will be in perfect order again and you can move on to the next step. Windows and its programs will work faster and more efficiently from now on.
Browse the hard disk thoroughly for errors
To ensure that Windows is always stable and crash-proof, it is advisable to scan the hard disk for errors. This process is often like balm on the hard disk sole, which is why I recommend this (and defragmenting) once a week:
1. Double-click on Workplace and select your Windows 2000 drive and click on it with the right mouse button. A context menu opens in which you can select Properties decide.
2. Now call up the Extras and decide on the button Check now. Now mark both options with a tick and click on Start.
3. A message appears, which you can confirm with OK confirm. It indicates that Windows 2000 cannot check the hard disk while the system is running and that the check will be carried out the next time the system is started. Agree to this suggestion and restart your computer. Your entire hard disk will now be analyzed and corrected if necessary!
