Quick overview:

Useful tools that are missing in Windows 8. Make working on your computer more convenient: free programs with interesting features that Windows 8.1 itself does not have. You can find an overview of some important ones here.

New PC speedometer: Win Experience Index

A feature that many users will miss has fallen victim to the Windows 8.1 update: the performance index. It used to use points to show how fast the PC was running Windows 8. If you don't want to do without this display under Windows 8.1, the Win Experience Index is a good choice: like the original under Windows 8, it shows how high the performance is - highest achievable value: 9.9.

For working with tabs: Clover

The "Clover" software is ideal for anyone who likes to work with tabs in Explorer. After the program had a few hiccups under Windows 8, it should now run without any problems under 8.1. It adds a tab function to Explorer that allows you to switch back and forth between multiple windows, similar to the Google Chrome browser. The tool also has a bookmark in which you can store frequently used folders.

For frequent chatters: Skype

While Skype Messenger and cloud storage were still on board in Windows 8, Skype has been removed as a desktop application in the 8.1 version. If you like to chat often via Skype, you should reinstall the program yourself. There should be no problems with compatibility and you will benefit from the ease of use.

Directory windows firmly under control: with Q-Dir

The freeware Q-Dir is the right choice for anyone who needs to keep an eye on many windows at the same time when working on their PC: up to four directory windows are displayed simultaneously in which you can work. It is also possible to save folders together as favorites. They can be stored as icons on the desktop for quick access. In addition, the user can highlight file types in color, which also contributes to clarity when working on the PC.
