Quick overview:
With Windows 2000, you can no longer install a network connection. Each time you click on Network and dial-up connection, there is no longer a link with which you can create a new connection. If you have tried right-clicking > New connection, the following error message is displayed after completion:
The specified connection could not be established. Possible causes are insufficient hard disk capacity or insufficient working memory.
The problem can have three causes: The Plug & Play service, which is responsible for LAN and dial-up connections, is not switched on, the "Remote procedure call" service is deactivated, which also prevents the wizard from running correctly. Changes made by the "dcomcnfg" tool can also cause this error message:
1. click on Start/Settings/Control Panel and select Administration/Services.
2. first double-click on the Plug & Play service and select the Automatic setting under Startup type and repeat this step for the Remote procedure call service.
3. now click on "Start/Settings" and type in "dcomcnfg". Switch to the "Default properties" tab and click on any setting from the "Default identity change" field
