Quick overview:
The online magazine CNET.com has compared Mac OS X 10.6 and Windows 7. [By Gerrit Grunwald]
The test was carried out on a MacBook Pro equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo (2.5 GHz), 4 gigabytes of RAM and a GeForce 9600M GT. Boot Camp version 3.0 brought the 64-bit version of Windows 7 to life.
In order to achieve approximately comparable results, software was used that can be run on both systems. Quick Time and iTunes 9 were used as representatives for multimedia applications. Cinebench R10 and Call of Duty 4 verified the performance of both systems.
As expected, Mac OS X performed better. After all, the hardware, applications (e.g. iTunes, Cinebench and QuickTime) and operating system are coordinated. Only in terms of gaming performance does Windows 7 clearly outperform MacOS X.

My personal conclusion
Windows 7 doesn't do too badly considering that it hasn't been on the market for long. I'm very much looking forward to a later benchmark with better drivers. To be fair, however, it should be noted that gaming performance is lower with MacOS, as the operating system was originally designed for other purposes.
